A Bad Case of Dragon Pox

It started with itchy arms. Then my throat got really warm. Spots broke out. I had a need to cough, but fire came out of my mouth! Then the spots turned into green iridescent scales…

These were some of the first signs of Dragon Pox. Many fairies in the Fairy Lands got it, and if we tried to speak fire would come out of our mouths and scorch the nearest fairy.

We learned to stay in our flowers, palaces, or trees, and keep at least a dragon’s breath away from each other. And I hesitate to say that dragon’s breath could be stinkier than the Blighted Bog in the Fairy Lands…

Happily, most fairies recovered fully, eventually losing their scales and going back to normal. However, some turned completely into dragons. We tried every kind of magic, spell, potion, and elixir, and nothing worked. Fortunately, we could still communicate with them, and they became dragons we ride and play with.

After a while, nobody got sick anymore. After the last scale fell off the last fairy, we had a Fairy Ball to end all Fairy Balls. Dancing to the wee hours, singing, fairy cakes and Mariposa Tea in great abundance! I probably shouldn’t mention, but Twizzle got into the Rainbow Juice and made everything rainbow coloured…

The good news is that it will go away, and the more everyone stays home, the sooner that happens. May you stay safe, and may the Dragon Pox never find you!

Talula Time Now Online!

Ever since I came through my fairy door from the Fairy Lands and arrived in the Human Realm, I have discovered all sorts of interesting things.

Cars, for example, are not dragons, even though I suspected they might be at first. Money is usually needed to buy things (although some people thankfully take jewels instead!). Ketchup potato chips are delicious. Humans are kind and welcoming, although they have an intriguing fascination with asking me to pose for something called a photo.

I discovered a contraption that turned out to be a device called an iPhone. It is my portal to you!

I met a kind woman who had made a fairy garden, with many fairy houses, fairy doors, and fairy statues to invite fairies to come play. She has now decided to get a fairy outfit and play with the many children that stop by to visit. This makes my heart blossom sing!

I have also met and danced with children and their parents, while respecting the distance needed for this time – I make sure to stay a dragon’s breath away. (We had the Dragon Pox in the Fairy Lands, and those who caught it would breath dragon fire, so we quickly learned to keep our distance!).

Some humans (the grown-up variety) ask me what my human name is, as if they think I’m just dressing up. This makes me laugh! They can’t believe that fairies might actually be real. Admittedly this make me feel a little sad as well. What happened? Why don’t many humans believe in fairies anymore after a certain age? I hope to find out.

My journey has so far been one of adventure, fun, and surprise. Life is a magical adventure! I am having such a wonderful time, meeting humans, trying out things, sharing about the magic of the fairies, and connecting with you. I hope you will watch, and share with anyone who you feel might have a fairy in their heart!

Meet Talula in the Garden

If you’re wondering what do next with the kids this summer, the Queen of the Fairies is here to help!

Talula Shimmerwing – known for enchanting children throughout Metro Vancouver and beyond – will visit a North Vancouver fairy garden this month to share the play and magic of the fairies.

Talula is teaming up with Leslee Tessman, a local resident and Fairy Grandmother, who has created an elaborate fairy garden in her front yard. Little did she know it would attract the Queen of the Fairies!

Talula will be welcoming visitors to Leslee’s garden at 1493 Kilmer Rd. on three consecutive Wednesdays, Aug. 12, 19 and 26, from  3:30-4:30 p.m. This will be a free event, although donations to Westcoast Family Center will be gratefully accepted.

Depending on number of attendees, adults are kindly asked to wear face masks and to wait in a line on the side of the road and Talula will visit with one family at a time in the garden, while respecting distancing.

Should the rain fairies be making merry, that day’s session will be unfortunately cancelled. Requests are already in for the sun fairies to do their magic.

Talula very much hopes to see you there!

The Queen of the Fairies Comes to Town

Perhaps you felt a shifting in the earth. Or maybe you sensed something was happening in the sky. Or perhaps you just knew…. that something was different.

You weren’t imagining things. Talula Shimmerwing, Queen of the Fairies, arrived recently in the Human Realm, visiting from her home in the Fairy Lands. to share the magic and play of the fairies.

Talula and her fairy friends put their magic together to make her human-sized, so she could be seen by humans. She is thrilled to share her adventures in her new YouTube channel, Talula Time, a name Talula is a little tickled about, as it has a few meanings. And fairies LOVE layers of meaning.

Talula Time is not only a show where it’s time for Talula, but it is also time for fairies! The world is going through some challenges, and perhaps the joy, play, and connection to Nature of the fairies will help.

And, it refers to how fairies have their own kind of time. In the Fairy Lands, time doesn’t work quite the same way as in the Human Realm. It is more fluid, and can be very slow, at other times quite quick, and even other times it folds about like woven silk. Fairies dance between those places and leave starry footprints.

Talula is also delighted to share messages of love, joy, and play with personalized videos, and through online parties and playdates. She’s having so much fun exploring these new realms of adventure, and hopes to meet you very soon.

New Wings!

My shoulders got very itchy recently, a certain sign that new wings were on the way.

You likely know, but fairies sometimes get new wings. It happens frequently for some fairies, and less often for others. I know a fairy that grows a new pair every moon!

When fairy wings molt, we like to take some time for ourselves as the molting happens. We call this cocooning. Cocooning is similar to what butterflies do, as we take quiet time and don’t get too concerned with the outside world, however I must say it is far less messy. I like to spend time in the Fairy Lands, curled up in my favourite flower, creating some sky paintings, and being with the Great Flower.

When our wings molt, our new wings are usually larger, and even more sparkly and magnificent. Here are my new wings! Do you love them as much as I do?

Do humans like to cocoon as well? I would love to hear!

Wishing you a day of Magic and Wonder,

Talula
